Wildfire northwest of Golden prompts evacuations (Local Tips & Reviews)

Sheriff’s deputies went door to door evacuating residents in Golden Gate Canyon. They have since been allowed to return to their homes.

GOLDEN, Colo. — People who were evacuated because of a wildfire near Golden Saturday night have been allowed to return to their homes.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) said the Bear Fire started along Bear Road in Golden Gate Canyon at around 6:30 p.m. It’s estimated to be 7-8 acres in size.

JCSO said deputies went door to door evacuating residents. Four homes were evacuated in all. No structures were lost, but one home was threatened.

A pre-evacuation notice was sent to a 3-5 mile radius from where the fire started in the 4200 block of Bear Road.

The evacuations and pre-evacuation notice have been lifted.

JCSO said the fire is not expected to grow, and crews will monitor it overnight and into Sunday.

Golden Gate Canyon Road was closed from Highway 93 to Crawford Gulch Road. It has since reopened.

This is a developing situation. This article will be updated as additional information is confirmed.
